Happy National Gum Care Month from all of us at Amundson Dental Associates, PC! This blog is centered around the importance of gum health and how you can properly care for your gums. Let's start with the basics!
Why Gum Health is Important
Having good gum health is important because it can help protect your overall health. Not to mention, healthy gums can prevent tooth loss and protect you against infection.
How To Properly Care for Your Gums
To maintain healthy gums, we recommend brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and scheduling regular visits with your dentist.
Now that we've got the basics out of the way, let's go over the risk factors you could face by not maintaining a consistent oral health routine.
It's important to maintain a consistent routine, otherwise you run the risk of getting periodontal disease, also known as gum disease. The warning signs of gum disease can look like bleeding gums, red and tender gums, and bad breath. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to bone loss which eventually leads to tooth loss. It can also impact your overall health as infection of the gums can enter your bloodstream.
If you're concerned that you might have gum disease, we recommend that you continue brushing and flossing daily, even if your gums bleed, and make sure you schedule an appointment with your dentist.
