Happy National Gum Care Month!

Did you know that September is National Gum Care Month?

Your gums are so important because not only do they hold your teeth, but they also protect your bones. Unhealthy gums can cause infections and you may end up losing your teeth or having them removed.

Lightly brushing your gums and teeth on a daily basis can help prevent gum disease. Dily flossing is also just as important! Make sure that your gums are light pink and firm, this means that they are healthy.

Unhealthy gums are red, inflamed, and will bleed when brushing your teeth. You will also notice that you are constantly having bad breath. You can experience unhealthy gums from not taking care of your oral hygiene, but many foods can negatively affect your gums as well. Sharp foods like potato chips can cause trauma and hot foods can burn and inflame the tissue.

If you notice any of these issues or are concerned you might have a problem with your gums or teeth, call Amundson Dental Associates immediately!
